Shen Yun “An extraordinary performance”, Says Torino Cultural Commission President

Posted by Author on June 12, 2010

TORINO, Italy— Senor Luca Cassiani is president of the Cultural Commission of the Municipality of Torino and was representing the Mayor of Torino at the opening night of Shen Yun Performing Arts at the Teatro Regio.

The New York-based performers were met with hearty applause as they premiered new dances and songs that tell of ancient legends and contemporary stories through the millennia-old art forms of classical Chinese dance and music. The Shen Yun Performing Arts Touring Company Orchestra accompanied the performers with all-original composition, unique in their combination of classical Western and Chinese instruments.

Sr. Cassiani, who has been president of the commission for six years, was full of praise for Shen Yun. He exclaimed, “It was a spectacle that I have never seen with an extraordinary performance; great artists, musicians, singers, dancers, costumes, … I have to say it was a nice experience. It’s a newness.”

He particularly appreciated the piece known as Handkerchiefs, using it as an example of the artists’ ability to put together the choreography and the dancing, the costumes “and everything in harmony,” he added.

In this spirited dance from North East China, the young ladies celebrate the onset of spring, tossing and twirling their handkerchiefs effortlessly, says the programme book.

For Sr. Cassiani, there was a strong spirituality behind Shen Yun which brought him “serenity, tolerance, peace, spiritual pursuit and also freedom,” he said.

He continued to share his thoughts. “I think the values you want to spread is a life in which everybody can express freely their own opinion, thoughts, ideas and spiritual values; in the ascendant to the spiritual life and not only in the material one.”

He was impressed by the ethnic diversity of China’s traditional culture, commenting, “I find extraordinary the way the spectacle, the music, the dancing, the art, and somehow, to represent the traditions of the whole China, cultural traditions from different areas of China from the ones we know to Tibet, Northern China and Southern were put together. Moreover, various arts—the drumming, dances, Tibet, the music and some other instruments that Europe does not know yet.”

Sr. Cassiani was moved by the message that Shen Yun is spreading, explaining, it’s “a message of tolerance, peace and respect of everybody’s ideas, the profession of faith and the spiritual path which everyone has the right to walk on.”…… (more details from The Epochtimes)
