INSTANBUL— Illustrious costume designer, art director and academic, Turkan Kadafar, was doubly-impressed by the Shen Yun Performing Arts’ debut presentation held at the Anadolu Auditorium on Saturday, May 22.
It was the first time the New York-based Shen Yun was presented in Turkey and those who saw the performance raved about its beauty.
Mr. Kadarfa was one of them and he’s going to phone everyone he knows to tell them what a wonderful experience he had.
The New York-based Shen Yun brings ancient China’s divinely-inspired heritage into the 21st century through Chinese classical dance and music.
Mr. Kafadar said because of his work in opera, theatre and movies, he was impressed with the presentation, comprising of exquisitely designed and ornamented costumes, high-tech backdrop scenes, a full orchestra playing a fusion of Western and Chinese instruments, and world-class artists.
“I found the performance fabulous,” he said. “The colors of the performance which expresses the [Chinese] nature impressed me tremendously. … The show is really amazing.”
Mr. Kadafar said he hoped Shen Yun Performing Arts Touring Company, one of three companies, would be very successful on its 2010 world tour of more than 100 cities.
“I wish to see the show many times more. I wish the show had stayed here longer and we could see it more, and I recommend the show to everybody.
“Today my phone will not stop, because I will call everybody. I will tell everybody that they must see the show. I really would like to thank everybody working for this performance a lot,” he said.
‘The show is perfect’
Also in the audience was Serdar Kocman who is a “conscentious objection defender” and very interested in reading books about peace.
“We don’t have traditional peace,” Mr. Kocman said, the three principles, truth, compassion, forbearance, should be a spiritual pursuit “for the human being and for the world” urgently needed in Turkey, he said.
“The show is perfect. The costumes are perfect.” Mr. Kocman enthused, and will urge his friends to see a Shen Yun show.
‘I felt their hearts smiling’
The owner of a textile company gave his name only as David, saw the show with his wife.
“I like it very much. It is very nice. The dancers were great; the performers were great. The costumes, the colors, the scenery, the background scenery, were all very nice,” he said.
“The harmony of the dances were perfect; all the dancers dance in the same way, having the same rhythm, I felt their heart smiling all the time, they had smiling faces all the time, so it was beautiful. All the performers were great”
The array of color combinations were perfect, he said.
“Beautiful, beautiful, very nice, colorful. The costumes and colors were chosen perfectly. They matched with the backgrounds. They were very nice.”
Shen Yun Performing Arts Touring Company will perform two shows at Chisinau, Modolva, on May 25 and 26.
