Korean dance choreographers should watch Shen Yun, says President of Arts Organization in S. Korea

Posted by Author on February 19, 2010

By Lee Cheng Jin, Epoch Times Staff, Feb. 18, 2010-

SUWON, South Korea— On Feb. 18, the Shen Yun Performing Arts New York Company successfully concluded its second show at Gyeonggi Arts Center, the largest theatre in Suwon city. After watching the show, Suwon Arts and Culture United Society Chairman Mr. Kim Hoon Dong commented that the show is flawless and the message given to audiences is very clear.

Mr. Kim said every year he watches many shows and Shen Yun is the best one because of its scale, the content of the program-China’s 5,000-year old history, its choreography, and techniques of the performers. Mr. Kim is also surprised that this year the show has an entirely new program and the show is very refined.

He said: “The live orchestra creates a strong impact on the audience. Although the members of the orchestra have to work very hard, the messages passed on to the audience is very powerful.”

Mr. Kim understands that the themes presented by Shen Yun come from China’s long history. He thinks that these themes are quite attractive. The dance that left him with the deepest impression was In a Miao Village. The costumes were beautiful and through the dance movements, the dance gave a superb interpretation of the unique culture of the Miao race. He also found Lanterns very interesting which presented folk traditions.

Mr. Kim feels that the dance Nothing Can Block the Divine Path was “very well choreographed and was presented in a way that was easy for people to understand.” The story is about a family who practice Falun Gong who remain steadfast in their belief and are persecuted in China.

He also thinks that Korean dance choreographers should watch Shen Yun. “Many of our cultural heritages have already disappeared. During the new year, Koreans only play poker.” The elegant culture projected by Shen Yun shows should be passed down in Korea. “We should also preserve this kind of culture. The group dancing is well coordinated. The colors are vibrant and there is the festive atmosphere of New Year. I think the show is great.”…… (more from The Epochtimes)
