Worldwide Torch Relay for Human Rights in China Visits Belgium

Brussels – The Worldwide Torch Relay for Human Rights in China is sponsored by the Coalition to Investigate the Persecution of Falun Gong (CIPFG). CIPFG welcomes all people and organizations to jointly spread the message “The Olympic Games and Crimes against Humanity cannot coexist in China.”

The Worldwide Torch Relay for Human Rights in China started on august 9th 2007 in Athens and will visit more than 100 cities in more than 35 countries throughout Europe, Asia, North-America, and Australia.

The worldwide Torch Relay will be in Belgium from Friday 28th September until Monday 1st October 2007.

Friday, 28th Sept., Brussels

12:00pm-1:00pm: Opening Ceremony at Schuman (EU headquarters)
2:00-3:00pm: Torch Relay will arrive at La Bourse

Politicians, athletes and human rights movements will support the start of the Torch Relay in Brussel.

A speech will be given by:

– senator Patrick van Krunkelsven
– human rights lawyer Georges-Henri Beauthier
former IBF boxing champion and Parliament member of the French speaking community Bea Diallo
– spokesperson for Human Rights Without Frontiers Paolo Barabesi.

Moreover, the chairman of the Belgian CIPFG Mr. Jan Loones, Flemish minister Mr. Geert Bourgeois, the Dardenne brother filmmakers, Interfaith International, Les Amis de Tibet and Gaia will support the event by either being present or having their letter of support to be read.

Some of the speakers will not only encourage other people to run in the Torch Relay, but will also join in themselves to bring the Human Rights Torch into Brussels.

Saturday, 29th Sept, Antwerp
  • 1:30pm start from Sint-Jan square
  • 2-3:00pm Torch Relay will arrive at Astrid Square with speeches by MEP mr.Bart Staes and others
Sunday 30st Sept, Oostende
  • 1:30pm start at Wapen Square
  • 2-3:00pm at the “Drie Gapers”(end of Koninginnelaan) with speeches by MP Mr. Wouter de Vriendt and Flemish parlement member Mr. Gino de Craemer
Monday 1st Oct, Sint-Niklaas
  • 9:30am Torch Run at the Grote Markt (Grand Place)
  • 10am official reception in the city hall

In all cities various Belgian politicians and NGO’s will support the event by either being present or having their letters of support to be read out loud.
