Starting on December 26, 2008, New York-based Divine Performing Arts will stage 35 shows in San Diego, Los Angeles, San Francisco, Seattle, Portland, Denver, Phoenix and Honolulu.

Divine Performing Arts’ (DPA) 19 shows in seven cities in Western U.S. in early 2008 were a resounding success. The show’s unique digital backdrops, splendid costumes, original musical score and superb Chinese classical dance never failed to thrill the audience.

The upcoming 35 shows will present an all-new program in eight cities this season, offering a cultural extravaganza of dance dramas, vocal performances, ethnic dancing, and instrumental music by a full orchestra. In recognition of these wonderful shows and DPA’s revival of traditional Chinese culture, a number of political leaders in the Western U.S. sent their congratulations and greetings.

Representatives Bob Filner, Suzan Davis, Loretta Sanchez and Loise Capps, Speaker of the California Assembly Karen Bass, State Senators Christine Kehoe and Mark Wyland, Assembly Members Martin Garrick, Joel Anderson, Mary Salas and Van Tran and other politicians issued congratulatory letters in recognition of the upcoming DPA shows.

Members’ Resolution No. 106 by Assembly Members Mike Davis and Curren Price said that they wanted to “draw the special attention of the people of the great Los Angeles community and the State of California to the 2009 Chinese New Year Spectacular to be performed by Divine Performing Arts from December 30, 2008, through January 4, 2009, and applaud the enjoyment and invaluable contributions the performing company has made to the world of entertainment.”

In her letter, Representative Loretta Sanchez stated: “The 2009 Divine Performing Arts’ Chinese New Year Spectacular is the largest Chinese New Year celebration event outside of China. The event highlights the Chinese culture through an extraordinary world-class production that brings together over 500 performers to depict the classic battle between good and evil and ancient culture.”

Ms. Sanchez also recognized the Chinese-American community for its outstanding accomplishments and leadership, and commended NTDTV “for providing quality programming and their leadership in organizing this event that celebrates the Chinese culture.”

Karen Bass, Speaker of the California Assembly, said in her letter that the DPA show this year “represents a truly unique window into ancient Chinese myths and culture, and it serves to bring all Angelenos together through art.”

Van Tran, Assemblyman and Chairman of the Assembly Select Committee on International Trade, whose grandmother is Chinese, also sent greetings.

“This celebration symbolizes the bringing together of over 100 of the world’s foremost classically trained Chinese dancers, choreographers, musicians, and vocalists. You have played a vital role in promoting an understanding between Chinese and Western societies. I firmly believe that the Chinese people outside China have benefited from your contributions to the Chinese culture. I also hope to see some of the benefits making their way to China when I visit there in April.

Review: China in 2008– the CCP started to lose its stranglehold (3)

The Diplomat, Australia, 24-Dec-2008 -

Government insider turned dissident writer Jennifer Zeng asks whether 2008 will be remembered as the year the CCP started to lose its stranglehold over China

(cont’d)

Millions of Internet users renounce the (Communist) Party

While governments of Western countries, including Australia, still fail to appreciate how fragile the communist regime really is, more and more people in China are awakening from their previous delusions about the Party.

On the Internet, more than 44 million people have already publicly renounced the CCP and its related organisations, while many so-called ‘naked’ officials are busy transferring their money – and sending their wives and children – overseas in anticipation of having to leave the country in a hurry one day.

Official figures show that at least 4000 suspected corrupt officials have already fled China, taking with them more than five billion yuan ($1.1 billion), but it’s not only low-ranking officials who are leaving the country.

In 2005, Chen Yonglin, consul for political affairs in the Chinese consulate in Sydney, defected. This year two high-profile Party cadres, Xin Weiming, Deputy Head of Luwan District of Shanghai, and Yang Xianghong, Party Member Secretary of the Lucheng District of Wenzhou City, did likewise. They both disappeared while visiting France in October.

Many people, including a large proportion inside the CCP, no longer doubt that the Party boat is sinking. The question is, of course, how many more people must suffer prior to its ultimate demise? (End)
