The Sydney Morning Herald, Australia, November 30, 2008 -
CHINA has drawn worldwide condemnation after executing a scientist accused of passing information to Taiwan.
Wo Weihan, a 59-year-old medical scientist, was executed on Friday, said his daughter Ran Chen, who is married to an American.
“My father was put to death, so was our hope in the Chinese justice system,” Ms Chen and her sister, Di, said in a statement.
A US embassy spokeswoman, Susan Stevenson, said: “We are deeply disturbed and dismayed by reports that the Chinese Government has carried out the death penalty against Wo Weihan.”
